The 5OS Project 2016 Montepulciano
Colour: Deep crimson purple
Nose: Slightly subdued nose yet alluring with plenty of dried herbs and sweet red fruit. A touch of that Monte mushroom/forest floor funk.
Palate: Initially jubey and sweet viscosity which translates to front palate drinkability, a medium to full body from start to finish, incredibly well balanced, soft acid, chewy tannin, finishes warm and long.
Our first vintage off of this block and the blocks first proper crop, handpicked early morning, destemmed into 2T open stainless steel fermenters, nothing fancy in terms of fermentation protocol, inoculated and pumped over 2x daily until dry, pressed and settled before heading into neutral French hogs heads for malo, once malo was completed the wine was racked, settled, sulfured before returning to the same barrels for further maturation before bottling.
Oak: 14 months in neutral French hogs heads.
