The 5OS Project 2016 Malbec
Colour: Deep purple. Nose: Sourced from the Lopresti vineyard, this Malbec looks and smells like it's too young to get in, but opens wonderfully to show purple flowers, chocolate and bramble. Palate: Fresh dark plums and mocha steal the show before smoky, earthy varietal characters jump into the light. The big, dusty tannins are somewhat out of place in what’s not much more than a medium to full palate, yet they deserve the benefit of doubt and in time I’m assuming they’ll wrap everything up just nicely.
Vineyard: 100% Malbec from the brilliant Lopresti vineyard in McLaren Vale. Winemaking: Hand selected fruit from the Lopresti vineyard, de-stemmed straight into two tonne fermenters. Two-a-day pump-overs until fermented dry. An average of 14 months in oak, a mix of American and French hogs-heads and barriques. Vegan friendly. (14.5%ABV)
