The 5OS Project 2015 Montepulciano
I begrudgingly twisted the cap on this wine, reflecting on how much I disliked the previous vintage… but this is so much better, same site, same winemakers, very different outcome. Clean, fresh and full of lovely brambly fruit, once it opens up there’s a marzipan like character, a bit of coffee and a compelling palate that has you comfortably reaching back. The oak is a touch fresh, in a seasoning sort of way, but this is just another of the myriad of botanical characters drifting throughout. No longer anything to fear hear, especially if you’ve a plate of tapas in front of you - SG on 27/02/18.
100% Montepulciano from the Catanzariti Vineyard in Mount Lofty. The wine spent 16 months in neutral French oak, avoiding new oak to ensure the fruit spoke volumes. (14.5%ABV)
