Long Yarn McLaren Vale Cabernet Merlot 2017

17 was a funny sort of year, leading up to Harvest we all got the clear message it was hot and dry, crops were small and lean and therefore we expected the wines to be a bit of hard going. During Harvest it looked like the opposite, everything was dark and well structured, the tannins nice and crisp which had me at least thinking a touch more humbly for once. Anyway, our initial senses were right, most of the wines (ours at least) tend to be touch brittle, the tannins in particular shaping up as the opposite of a rainy day and a soft pillow. A few years in bottle have reigned this one in, it was picked to go into a much more expensive bottle but we got a feeling early one it wasn’t going to fit the bill so we transferred to older oak and bottled early resulting in a ripper of a drink that should be surprisingly welcoming for another 5 or so years. A Cellar Highlight of the Harvest.
